Clutch

I decided to try and make a zippered pouch size of the Buttercup bag that I sell. Well, it's not perfect but that will be remedied soon. It's really cute and can hold a bunch of things. It's a little small for a full size wallet but a smaller one would do fine.
Tell me what you think!

Wow Wow Wubbzy

So, my daughter gave me a picture that she drew and colored and I thought it was so cute. She told me it was Wow Wow Wubbzy. At least her take on it. Here is the cartoon.
Here is her drawing. She gave him a body.

So, I decided to make a plush out of her drawing. Here is how I did it:
I first scanned the picture. Then I enlarged it in Photoshop. (My copier didn't have a size function on it.)
Then I cut up the picture into six pieces. Head, arms, legs, and body.

I cut out all the parts. I embroidered the face on the head part. First I drew on the face with a fabric pencil. My embroider skills aren't the greatest but you get the gist of it.
Here is a look at the drawing and my embroidered head.
This was a pretty tricky doll because there were a lot of small parts. I sewed the arms and legs and stuffed the legs. The arms I scrunched them up using some yarn. I was able to sew on the legs normally and one arm. The other arm I had to sew to the body by hand. There was just not enough room in the body to do that and flip back out. I used the hidden stitch.
Then I sewed the head together and left a hole in the bottom where the body will go.
I stuffed the body and head and then hand stitched the same way. I do have to say that the doll turned out better than I thought. It will definitely not be a doll to play with. It's pretty flimsy because of the large head vs small skinny body.
It was pretty fun doing this for her. It would be cool to get a toy that you designed. Try it sometime if you dare. Maybe pick a picture that is easier to sew.
Good luck to those who try! I will probably do this again.

Fruit Leather Tutorial

If you are like me then you have grown up on fruit leather that your mom made. This is one of the things I loved and still do. I thought I would share the easy way my mom made fruit leather.

First you get your fresh fruit from your garden (or wherever else.) Enough to make a blender full. I have peaches here.
Cut the peaches in half and remove the pit, any nasty parts, and the skins (Optional. My mom keeps the skins on. I didn't this time.) If you have really ripe peaches the skins peel right off.
My blender is about 5 cups and I filled it to the top. When blended it made about 4 cups.
This is after blended. I did not add any water. It didn't need it since the peaches were really ripe. I did add 1 tablespoon of sugar. My mom doesn't add anything.
Line your pan with plastic wrap. I did it twice and overlapped in the middle. You want to cover the whole pan.
Pour the blended fruit into the pan and shake it around till it is evenly distributed.
Lay it out in the sun for a couple days. When I made this it was about 107 degrees outside. It was almost done in one day. It took about 1 1/2 days. If you don't want to do that put it in the oven at 140 degrees. It will take about 8-12 hours doing it this way.
The fruit leather will be done when it is no longer sticky and has a smooth surface.

After the leather is dried roll it up in the plastic wrap and store it in the fridge or freezer. The leather will come off of the plastic wrap easily.

Beaded Watches

When I was on vacation the girls of the family had a craft hour. That's all we could find with kids running around. We ordered the watch faces at ewatchwholesale.com and went to Michael's to find the beads that we wanted to use for the band. We all went with a turquoise theme and they all turned out really cute.

This watch is what we called the turquoise M&M's. We used elastic on this watch.
Here are the other three. Mine is at the top. I have two shirts with those colors so I thought I would mingle the two colors together. I think they look good together. I used wire on my watch. I wanted to have the option of taking off the band and putting another on.

We also made a couple necklaces and a ring out of the remnants. I'll see what picture of the ring I can put up. It's so simple. I just used some stretchy cord and one of the big round crackly beads. It's kind of cute.

Click on the pictures to see them bigger.
The watch face website had really good prices for their watches. I think the faces we got ranged from $3.95-$5.95. Not a bad deal.

So cute.
